For now, sit back and let us tell you a little about some of our favorite Austin museums and galleries near our Riverside Austin apartments.

Blanton Museum

The Blanton is one of the best art museums for miles if you ask us. Located on UT Campus on East MLK Jr. Boulevard, it serves as the primary art collection for the city of Austin. Collections range from ancient Greek pottery to 20th Century paintings, and rotating exhibitions change throughout the year, so every visit to this museum offers something new.

The Blanton, while rich in its collection of European paintings, prints, and drawings, also curates an excellent collection of modern and contemporary American and Latin American art. After all, what Austin museum could call itself the “primary art collection for the city” if it didn’t include our vibrant Latinx community?

Mexic-Arte Museum

Speaking of the Latinx community and the art they create, the Mexic-Arte Museum is another Austin museum that should not be missed. Located in downtown Austin along Congress Ave, The Mexic-Arte Museum is devoted to the preservation and presentation of traditional and contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.

In addition to its impressive collections and exhibitions, the museum also offers educational programs and workshops, including free Family Days held four times a year, which provide the perfect opportunity for parents with kids to connect and engage over gallery tours and collaborative art making.

Umlauf Sculpture Garden

The Umlauf Sculpture Garden isn’t your typical museum. More of an outdoor gallery, this lush sculpture garden is located in Zilker Park, just south of Barton Springs Rd. The sculpture garden is perfect for anyone looking for an affordable and casual museum experience that lets you spend time outdoors and get up close and personal with the art. Plus, it’s a great place to enjoy the beauty of natural greenery and fresh air right in the heart of Austin. We suggest a leisurely stroll through the garden with friends followed by a casual picnic in Zilker Park.
